HP Recommended Product: HP Officejet 5740 Operating System: Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I've been scanning a few items and playing with the settings available on the, relatively, new scanning method through HP Smart and am wondering exactly what does the "Compression" option does. Obviously it should do some form of compressing the image to make the file smaller, however, is "Low" low compression or low file size? It doesn't really say and in my tests, I get similarly sized files for all 3 options. I feel like it should have an "i" explaining what it does.

Thank you in advance!

I scanned at all three settings a while ago, to find out the same answer. Unfortunately, I now have a new printer and haven't done that with the new one.

I do think it's a HUGE design error for HP not to say what this setting does. If the "low" compression makes it "low" quality, then it literally does the oppose of what it claims to do.

Welcome to HP support community.

Perform root level uninstallation to remove all the printer related software's.

Download and install the printer driver

I hope that helps.

Sandytechy20, your reply didn't even come close to addressing anything in this entire thread.

Since you work for HP, do you know what scanning compression does?

I know, right?! I was afraid to say this because I was not wanting another robotic, pasted, corporate response.

I have brought your issue to the attention of an appropriate team within HP. They will likely request information from you in order to look up your case details or product serial number. Please look for a private message from an identified HP contact. Additionally, keep in mind not to publicly post personal information (serial numbers and case details).
